Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of the "still point"—that quiet, unshakeable space that exists within us, even when the world outside feels loud, fast, and chaotic.
My practice is a reflection of a life lived across borders and traditions. Born in Seoul, I carry the early memory of traditional Korean aesthetics—a focus on balance and essence. This foundation was expanded during my years in Los Angeles, my time living in Italy, and my studies of yoga and meditation in Thailand and India. Each of these landscapes has informed my understanding of how we find our center in a moving world.
I create Mindfulness Anchors: hand-painted works designed to act as visual landing spots for the mind. Using archival Sumi ink, pigmented gold, and natural fibers like handmade Mulberry paper and Arches and Fabriano Cotton. I focus on the tactile relationship between the brush and the surface. I prefer the deckled, raw edges of hand-fed papers, as they mirror the organic, unrefined beauty of the natural world.
Guided by the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, I celebrate imperfection and the resilience of the human spirit. I do not seek the sterile perfection of a digital line. Instead, I lean into the honest bleed of the ink and the shimmer of the gold—reminders that there is profound beauty in our softness, our fractures, and our persistence.
I believe that art should do more than fill a space on a wall; it should hold space for the human soul. Each piece in Series 111 is an invitation to pause, to soften, and to return to your center—remembering the stillness & the sacred that remains when everything else is stripped away.
